Use

The Washberry shells naturally contain a detergent called saponin.  Just like soap, water releases the saponin which then attaches to fatty substances in your wash so that they are easily removed and washed away.  Warmer water will release the saponin faster and give a better wash.

Wash Bags

Laundry - We recommend putting 3 or 4 nuts into a wash bag per wash.  (Less for smaller machines or hot washes, and more for larger machines or cold washes.)  You can also use a old sock tied at the top, or a piece of muslin or an old hankie to hold the Washberries.  If they get loose in your wash, make sure that you check your machines filter after washing to prevent blockages.

Dishwasher - You only need to add a half nut to the wash bag for each dishwasher cycle.  Add a couple extra for heavily soiled items.  You'll be surprised at how sparking your glasses and cuttlery becomes.

Solution

Boil 8-10 soap nuts in 4 cups of water for 10 minutes.  Allow to cool and remove nut pieces.

Washing Laundry - You can use 1/2 cup per load of washing, or a dash in the sink of warm water for handwashing.  Adjust the concentration to suit.

General Cleaning - Add 3-5 drops of essential oil to Solution for beautiful fresh fragrance.  You can use the Solution in a spray bottle for hard to reach areas.

Hand Soap - Just put the Washberry soap nut solution into a pump bottle and use as a hand soap.

Shampoo - Although the Solution doesn't foam its great for hair.  Use in an old pump bottle or refilled shampoo bottle, but make sure you've sieved the solution to avoid grit getting in your eyes.  Washberry soap nut solution will give lovely soft hair that doesnt tend to get greasy as quickly.

Pet Shampoo - Washberry soap nuts are also great for pets.  The fur will be soft and clean.

Dishwasher - Just fill the soap dispenser with Solution.  You don't even need to use a rinse aid.

Car Wash - Add 1/2 cup to a bucket of hot water for washing the car.
